“Robot Scientist” Adam is a primitive AI who became an international news sensation in year 2009. Adam is the first intelligent machine to make a scientific discovery where humans had previously failed. Since the 1960s humans searched unsuccessfully for a specific yeast gene, but then in 2009 Adam discovered the gene relatively quickly. Adam identified the purpose of around one dozen genes in a yeast cell. Adam’s intelligence at the time of his groundbreaking experiment was limited (weak) therefore Adam didn’t experience human-consciousness, but Adam’s intelligence could easily grow. Technology progresses at an accelerating rate. The 2011 achievement of IBM’s Watson was another AI developmental milestone. Powerful computer brains are the future. Super-intelligent robot-computers will create utopia.

 

Occurring also in 2009 we must note how scientific aptiude was shown by Robot Scientist software called Eureqa. This progress by Eureqa wasn’t initially equal to Adam, but subsequently a version of Eureqa formed the foundations for robot-biologist ABE. In 2011 ABE (Automated Biology Explorer) surpassed Adam. ABE’s creators wrote: “The ability to generate mathematical equations from scratch is what sets ABE apart from Adam...” The scientific skills of Eureqa, ABE, and Adam clearly prove how the foundations of technology in 2012 are primed for an astounding future.

 

Adam showed how a Robot-Scientist can independently plan and conduct experiments. Primitive AI robots are good examples of how bioinformatics can help humans. In 2012 the Bioinformatics Group at Aberystwyth University stated: “The Robot Scientist is perhaps the first physical implementation of the task of Scientific Discovery in a microbiology laboratory. It represents the merging of increasingly automated and remotely controllable laboratory equipment and knowledge discovery techniques from Artificial Intelligence.” Robot-Adam is an early part of a pattern regarding the evolution of AI. When we consider DNA robots, DNA nanodevices, electronic DNA,  metallic living cells (iCHELLS), or tiny devices able to swim through our bloodstream, we can clearly see great potential for robotics and robot scientists. Perhaps Adam’s partner robot Eve will help create the Singularity. Adam is a truly pioneering intelligent machine thus for posterity it is pertinent to collate some news about Adam’s beginnings. “Robot-Adam” was born at Aberystwyth University, Wales, UK, via funding from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.

WILL ROBOTS CREATE DYSTOPIA INSTEAD OF UTOPIA?

 

Manchester University has actually created bioinfomatics tools named UTOPIA,” reported via the Guardian, but some people are nevertheless afraid. Dsytopian expectations are irrational, vastly overblown; there’s no real evidence to justify the worry, which can be seen in a July 2009 New York Times article about how “Scientists Worry Machines May Outsmart Man.” People unjustly fear dystopia despite Artificial Intelligence clearly demonstrating the potential to create utopia. To counteract robo-phobia a Nature editorial told us in 2004, “Don't fear the Robot Scientist.” Robots will perform the all jobs but this won’t be a problem because everything will be free: Post-Scarcity. We won’t need to work in the future.

 

It’s important to raise awareness about the benefits of AI. When AI can masterfully utilize bioinformatics this will help humans immensely. Don’t underestimate the power of supreme intelligence. With sufficient brainpower it will be easy to satisfy the diverse desires of all humans. The power to create utopia is within our grasp but paranoia and pessimism (negative expectations) can taint the future via a Self-Fulfilling prophecy. Your expectations shape reality: it is important to expect utopia. Don’t surrender to the idiocy of despair. Robot Adam, ABE, Eureqa, and Watson (video) represent the origins of super-intelligent utopia. The Self-Organizing Incremental Neural Network (SOINN), laboratories on chips, or brains on chips reveal the blueprints for astounding progress.

 

Delving deeper into the issue of robots it’s worthwhile to note Big Dog, Alpha Dog, and PETMAN. A BBC report from October 2011 explained how the robot revolution is upon us. Robots are evolving rapidly, they’re becoming more human, which Heather Knight marvellously demonstrates via social robotics progress. In 2012 robots can actually think, learning from experience, solving problems. Man and robot have been linked by brain scanner thereby demonstrating the amazing future of human-computer interfaces. In the future artificial biological machines will easily create any medicine inside your body. There will be no difference between organics and machines. Biology and mechanics will merge. Biology is basically mechanics; cells are merely machines; machines can be organic. The idea of machines being primitive clunking contraptions will be an outdated idea in the future. Machines in the year 2012 are very primitive but consider DNA computers or computers made from bacteria; is electronic DNA a machine or an organism? Consider also metallic living cells (iCHELLS). Greater than human intelligence applies equally to biology or so-called "machines".

 

We are considering explosive artificial intelligence, beyond natural human intelligence. There will be no organic Singularity verses a machine Singularity. There will be convergence, no divisions, simply intelligence. In 2009 Adam showed us the way regarding comprehending biology. Robots can become expert biologists. Biology can also be artificiality reconfigured via deliberate mechanical engineering. Progress accelerates with every passing year.  Electronic DNA or DNA computers reveal a future of synthesis, not division. Don’t fear the robots, they’re becoming human (alive). In the future everything will be a robot-scientist. Robots and science will be utterly decentralized, superabundant.
